Welcome to 3rd grade! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your child’s third grade teacher. I am so excited about this school year! This is my eighth year at Gretna Elementary School. I previously taught fourth grade for nine years at St. Stephen the Martyr School. Before that I taught third grade for five years at St. Bonaventure School in Columbus, Nebraska. The year before that, I taught music for one year. Prior to my time at St. Bonaventure, I taught fifth and sixth grade in Plainview, Nebraska for four years. I completed my student teaching experience in a third grade classroom in the Millard Public Schools. I have my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Technology. I also have a K-3 Math Specialist Certificate.
Now, a little about myself personally. I grew up with five brothers and three sisters on a farm near St. Helena, Nebraska (northeast Nebraska near Hartington). I am the eighth out of nine children. My husband is a fourth grade teacher here at Gretna Elementary. Our older son is an athletic trainer and is currently a Graduate Assistant at Western Missouri State University. Our younger son is a senior in high school and LOVES soccer! We also have a dog named Creighton!
This summer I spent a lot of reading, scrapbooking, and working at Kids Connection. Some things I enjoy are snow skiing, spending time at the beach, hanging out with my family, and visiting my parents on the farm. I also spent some of my time this summer planning some fantastic learning opportunities for your child. I am really looking forward to teaching third grade with Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Johnson and Miss Meadows.
I strongly believe in keeping parents informed of what is going on in the classroom. YOU, as parents, are your child’s primary educators. I want you to know what is going on in the classroom so that it can be reinforced and enhanced at home. On our home page you will find a link titled "Weekly Tidbits". This site will be updated each Friday to let you know what to expect the next week. This will also include items needed in the classroom, special events, and a summary of what we are studying. You will want to be sure to bookmark and check this link every weekend. A majority of home/school notes/messages will take place via email. Please be sure to fill out the family information page (link on our home page) as soon as possible. Most other papers, notes, and information will come home in your child’s Friday Folder. If there is an urgent need or if I just need to check in, I will call you.
I am very excited for the school year to begin. I have been busy planning so your child will get the best educational experience I can provide. I thank you in advance for taking the time to become involved in your child’s educational process. Through cooperation and communication, I am sure that we can offer your child a successful learning experience.
Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Vos
